David Beckham in his white number 23 shirt made his debut for Real Madrid on Saturday night at Beijing's Workers Stadium.
After beating the home side - the China all-star Dragons 4-0 - Beckham thanked his fellow players and told reporters he was happy with his new role with the Spanish team. 'I enjoyed myself and felt very comfortable considering it was my first competitive game. This is due to the other Real Madrid players who have done everything they could to make me feel part of the set-up since the day we joined up for pre-season training.'
Before the game began Beckham met nurses who had worked through the SARS crisis earlier in the year. Also newspapers were filled with reports about fans buying used items from Beckham's hotel room and mobbing the Real Madrid players wherever they went.
David Beckham and the Real Madrid players are on Tour in Asia throughout August.
