The others are England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Scottish flag of St Andrew is a white diagonal cross on a blue background. This, when combined with St George's red cross flag of England and St Patrick's red diagonal cross flag of Ireland, produces the familiar Union Jack flag of the United Kingdom.
Scotland occupies the northern third of the island of Great Britain and shares a land border to the south with England. It has a population of around five million.
