网易日语学习论坛的老朋友tamachan给我发邮件，问我一个关于英语的问题。tamachan说，在日语中，根据句子最后面的助词，可以很容易地判断出说话人是男人还是女人（因为日语中有一些女性专用的助词），那么在英语中，是否也可以根据句子的特点，判断出说话人的性别呢？首先我可以明确地回答说：英语是一种无性别的语言，男人的英语与女人的英语，两者是完全相同的，没有任何差别，所以在这个话题上，我确实没有什么可聊的。不过这个话题，却让我联想到另外一个话题，那就是男人怎样听懂女人的英语，或者，女人怎样听懂男人的英语。
在我们中国，一个女孩子，特别是恋爱时期的女孩子，如果对一个男孩子说"你真坏"，那么在大多数情况下，她的真实意思是"你真好"。类似这种"表里不一"的语言，在日常生活中是很常见的，这主要是由于女性含蓄、羞涩的天性造成的。其实这种现象，在西方国家，在英语中，也是很常见的。比如一个美国男孩子想对自己的女朋友做一些过分亲热的举动，女孩子说I'm not happy!（我不高兴啦），而她的真实意思很可能是Of course, I'm happy, you moron!（当然，我很高兴，你这个大傻瓜）。
