Topic: teachers, especially those in college are not as important as they used to be. Students can learn all by themselves to get a good achievement. How do you view this statement?

华康写的:

Exactly I don't agree with that opinion.

But it is not strange that many and more go into that opinion, for there are so many examples to support it. Nowadays many students, especially those in universities become successfully famous and even have their career at such a young age. Among them stand out GuoJingming and HanHan, who are both regarded as geniuses for writing. Of course, there is no denying the fact that they are in through the country now and that their teachers are still unknown to most of us. And another convincible example is LiYang, the founder of Crazy English, who used to do so badly in English that he failed many English exams in university, but now he also becomes a world-famous person. Based on these, many people hold the opinion that the teachers make little or even no difference in their study and life and that they can learn more and better by themselves rather than learn from their teachers.

Yes, maybe. I admit that nowadays self-learning proves to be more and more important, for the lifelong learning requests us to update our knowledge in pace with the development of high technology, especially in universities. Students in universities have such lots of private things to occupy their minds that they hardly have time with their teachers after class to talk about their studies. So in most cases, they have to learn on their own. And there are many students really do a great job.

But we can't therefore draw a conclusion that teachers are useless and we can learn better without teachers. It is clear in high school since teachers play such an important role in the College Entrance Examination. But in the university case, it causes so many debates. Many students complain they learn nothing from their teachers. But what I want to remind you of is that teachers are still important and necessary.

For one thing, everything exists for some reason. Now that universities still hire teachers, we cannot ignore their importance. No one will spend money for nothing.

For another, although it may seem that the teachers in universities spend very little time with us, But(去掉这个词) it cannot prove they have no influence on us. The small amount of time still makes difference. The reason for it is that since we are university students, we are more mature than ever and it is high time that we formed(此处用过去式表虚拟,要么就用should加原形,省略了should就一定要用过去式,这与别的虚拟情况不同) our own personalities and the habit of thinking independently. To learn how to learn is the essence of the university education and the teachers are serving that purpose. So it has been decided that teachers should let the students have more private time and what they should teach is the ability to think, to analyze problems and find solutions and above all to deal with the relationships with others. These undoubtedly benefit us a lot all our whole lives. And if we feel uneasy, sad or depressed and want to find people to turn to for help or advice, the teachers should always be a priority.

To summarize, I don't agree with that opinion. Teachers are still very necessary in both high schools and universities. They teach us how to learn and think. None can study really well without the aids of the teachers. If you really want to learn well, you should go to your teachers, and you'll learn new things that you never learned before, because they are teachers!

我写的:

Nowadays many students, especially those in college, argue that teachers are not so important as they used to be. They think they can learn the lessons all by themselves and achieve better results than they can when taught by teachers. Therefore, they attach little importance to listening to the teacher and mind their own business.

To begin with, I should assert that I do not deny there are really some extremely brilliant learners that can totally learn their majors and minors exceptionally independent of teachers' instructions. There are numerous famous instances in our society. Many people do succeed through self-learning. However, is it really true that teachers are not as important as they used to be, or even of no use to the students' learning? I do keep a skeptical attitude towards this allegation.

As I have mentioned above, some students can fulfill the study tasks all by themselves excellently, but we should keep in mind that the number of such students is less than small. They just account for a small proportion of the total. To the vast majority of students, they do need teachers' assistance. In college, the subjects are vertically deeper and horizontally broader than those in senior middle school. Education in college is a giant leap compared with that in senior middle school. A lot of students may feel the subjects to be harder to interpret than ever before because they are more professional or abstract. At this moment, teachers function as a guiding light. Teachers can explain every detail of the ticklish problems and doubtful points, which will ultimately clarify your confusion timely and efficiently. Moreover, if you hold the converseviewpoint with the writer or the teacher, you can argue with him and seek out the satisfactory answer. Through discussing with your teacher, though your opinion may fail to stand eventually, you do harvest a lot and learn the problem deeper than other students. If you learn all by yourselves, it is inevitable for you to find out questions and have no one to turn to. Maybe you have access to computer and internet and can come up with the answer finally, it may not be as convenient as it is to ask your teachers forthright. Besides, discussing with the teacher face to face can deepen your understanding of the issue, and the teacher may tell you some extra relevant knowledge to broaden your eyeshot! Isn't it marvelous?

Secondly, I do believe the functions of teachers are far more than merely imparting knowledge to students. They are also playing a role of revelator who can enlighten students on all aspects of life. When students encounter some setbacks or pitfalls and feel in the fog, the teachers can guide them out of the trouble timely. Furthermore, besides teaching, teachers can share with the students their experiences and their perceptions towards life and society, which can largely help the students sidewalk a lot of troubles and make the right alternatives. Even though students have stepped into society and worked, they may need to consult their teachers about some problems!

Altogether, I totallydissent with the assertion in the topic. I do hold that teachers are indispensable to the students. Hence, I strongly suggest all the schools ranging from primary ones to colleges should be staffed with more qualified and experienced teachers. Only by doing so can we truly elevate our quality of educations and cultivate more competent intellectuals for our country!
