"Baker's dozen"是数字"13"的意思而不是面包师那里的一打东西。



2. Stop beating around the bush.



"Beat around the bush"意思是说话绕圈子，拐弯抹角。



3. Have you met my better half?



"Better half"是指配偶。



4. The criminal bit the dust.



"Bite the dust"的字面意思是咬住地面上的泥土，这个习语源于美国，现在人们用它来表示"击毙，献身"等意思。句子中的＂bit＂是＂bite＂的过去分词。



5. That show brought down the house.



"Bring down the house＂在这里是形容演出异常精彩，受到了极大的欢迎的意思。
