zest：gusto

这两个名词都作"热情"或"兴趣"讲，只是前者是指人的本性，而后者则是指一时的冲动。



例如：After his illness he lost his zest in life．病后他就丧失生活的兴趣了。



He started painting with great gusto．他开始学绘画就兴致勃勃。

















zest，with～：with a～

这两个短语都作"尽兴地"或"热情地"讲，只是with zest 可以单独使用，而with a zest则必须带定语从句。

zero：o：naught／nought：nil

这些词都可表示"零"。阿拉伯数码中的zero，可用o或zero，但用o比较普通；小数点前的"零"，多半用naught／nought；温度计上的"零"多半用zero；比赛计数上的零，则通常要用nil（注：美国英语往往一概用zero）。



例如：14005（读one four oo five）

zip open／shut：zip up

动词zip同open搭配作"把拉链拉开"讲，同shut搭配则作"把拉链拉上"讲；但只有同up这个副词搭配作"把拉链拉上"讲，才能说得比较利落。



例如：She zipped her handbag open．她把手提包拉开。



She zipped her handbag shut．她把手提包拉上。



比较：She zipped her handbag shut．她把手提包拉上。（说起来不那么利落）



She zipped her handbag up．她把手提包拉上。（说起来比较利落）
