一鸣惊人
Yìmíngjīngrén    

       战国时代，齐国的齐威王本来是一个很有才智的君主，但是，他即位以后，却只知道享乐，不管国家大事，使国家非常衰败。齐国有一个爱国人士名叫淳于髡（Chún Yúkūn），想找个机会来劝告齐威王。有一天，淳于髡见到了齐威王，就对他说："大王，我有一个谜语想请您猜一猜：齐国有只大鸟，住在大王的宫廷中，已经整整三年了，可是他既不飞翔，也不鸣叫，只是毫无目的大睡，大王您猜，这是一只什么鸟呢？"齐威王明白淳于髡是在讽刺自己，因此回答道："这只大鸟，它不飞则已，一飞就会冲到天上去，它不鸣则已，一鸣就会惊动众人，你慢慢等着瞧吧！" 从此齐威王开始积极治理国家，全国上下，很快就发展起来。

The Emperor Qi Wei of Qi state in the Warring States Period, used to be a very talented emperor. But after he came into power, he began to indulge himself in pleasure and no longer cared about the national affairs. One day, a patriot Chun Yukun, came to him and said, "Your Majesty, here is a riddle for you. There's a big bird living in a kingdom for three years. He neither flies nor sings but sleeps all day long. Do you know what bird it is?" Emperor Qi Wei knew he was mocking him, so he answered, "This big bird, though sitting idle everyday, once he makes up his mind to fly, he could rise to the top sky; once he determines to sing, his songs would amaze all! Just wait and see!" From then on, Emperor Qi Wei began to make great efforts to govern his kingdom and his country soon became prosperous.
