Topic: We now can bank, shop and do business without face to face. What its possible effects on individuals and society as a whole
Nowadays as telephone and computer are invading more and more families, our ways of banking, shopping and doing business have altered tremendously. Decades ago, we needed to accomplish the above affairs face to face. But now the old way has gone out of date and we favor the one with the aid of telephone, computer, etc. the new way to converse and deal with diverse things does have great impact on individuals and society as a whole.
In regards to individuals, firstly it provides for them great convenience and efficiency. With simply a telephone or computer, we can achieve the talk without toiling along the distance to the destination, facilitating complicated formalities to a large extent. It is particularly evident when it comes to the international trade which involves at least two countries. Once the contract is signed, the following affairs will be coped with through emails or telephone. Furthermore, the new way to shop also enrich people's life and becomes time-efficient. Many of us do not have to pay a visit to the supermarket if we are on the terrible run with our work or something urgent. With several clicks, we can get access to our desirable ones that will knock at our door in a few minutes. Moreover, when you are banking, the worry of waiting for a long time in a long queen in the bank has been the bygone memory. Instead, through dialing several numbers or clicking the net for several times, all will be reached in no time and we can cozily enjoy a cup of coffee afterwards.
As with our society, the new way to contact free from face to face enhances the overall efficiency and benefits of our whole society. When it saves individuals' time, it is also cutting the opportunity cost of time of our society. People can use the spared time to engage in other aspects so as to generate more wealth. Besides, the universal use of telephone and computer can stimulate the high-tech industry to produce more effective and efficient means for our future contact and dealing with business or other affairs.
But every coin has two sides. While the new way without face to face bring us a lot of benefits, it also brings about some problems. For example, without negotiating or bargaining face to face, one will be exposed to higher risk of being taken in when doing business. Many times a telephone or an email cannot assure you of everything about your trading partner, unless you have developed a long and solid business connection with the other party. Another example is that regardless of banking or doing business without face to face, we also get used to touching our friends and relatives by an once-in-a-while phone call, or even a brief email without face to face, which will somehow lengthen the distance between hearts.
Of course, we should still encourage the development of new ways to do things without face to face, for its advantage far outweighs its disadvantage. But we should also keep in mind that talking face to face is also essential in some cases and we should strike a balance between the two ways.
