Short-selling research firm Muddy Waters took aim at yet another Chinese target on Monday in the U.S., issuing a 'strong sell' recommendation on advertising company Focus Media. On Tuesday, the company's CEO fired back, issuing a string of angry messages on the popular Twitter-like microblogging service Sina Weibo denying Muddy Waters' accusations and marveling at the vagaries of the U.S. market.

Why isn't anyone suing these short sellers who are just spreading malicious rumors everywhere?' Focus Media Chief Executive Jason Jiang wrote on his verified Weibo account during the wee hours Tuesday morning. 'These people should be punished according to the law!!!'

In a report posted on its website, Muddy Waters accused Focus Media of fraudulently inflating the number of screens in its liquid-crystal-display network and deliberately overpaying for acquisitions in a possible attempt to hide losses. Its accusations couldn't be independently confirmed.

Focus Media's American depositary shares tumbled on the accusations, trading at $15.43
