Swedish prosecutors said Saturday that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was 'no longer wanted' for rape, reversing their position just hours after saying his arrest was being sought.
瑞典检察机关周六称，"维基解密"创始人阿桑奇(Julian Assange)不再因强奸罪受到"通缉"，这是瑞典警方向其发出逮捕令仅数小时后，检察机关就撤销了对他的强奸指控。
In an update on the website of the Swedish Prosecution Authority, the agency said that 'chief prosecutor Eva Finne has come to the decision that Julian Assange is not suspected of rape.' His arrest is no longer being sought, the agency said.
瑞典国家检察官办公室(Swedish Prosecution Authority)在其一份最新网站声明中表示，首席检察长芬纳(Eva Finne)已经判定阿桑齐不是强奸嫌疑人，并称不再对其进行通缉。
A spokeswoman for the prosecution authority said Assange was still suspected of the lesser crime of molestation in a separate case, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier, in response to the initial allegations, Assange said in a posting on the WikiLeaks Twitter account: 'The charges are without basis and their issue at this moment is deeply disturbing.' WikiLeaks labeled them a 'dirty trick.' Assange and WikiLeaks didn't immediately respond to emailed requests for comment. No one in the Swedish Prosecution Authority's press office answered the phone.

WikiLeaks last month published 76,000 classified U.S. military documents about the war in Afghanistan. Assange, an Australian, has been in Sweden in recent days, where WikiLeaks has some infrastructure.

The Pentagon has sharply criticized Assange for publishing the documents, saying it could put the lives of soldiers and Afghan civilians at risk. Assange has said he planned to publish up to 15,000 more documents about the war soon. He defends the publications, saying greater transparency is needed about civilian casualties, U.S. military tactics and other issues. Saturday, the Pentagon declined to comment.

The allegations were reported earlier Saturday by the Swedish tabloid Expressen. WikiLeaks drew attention to the article on its Twitter page, saying: 'We were warned to expect 'dirty tricks.' Now we have the first one.'

In a statement posted on the WikiLeaks site, the organization said: 'On Saturday 21st of August, we have been made aware of rape allegations made against Julian Assange, founder of this project and one of our spokespeople. We are deeply concerned about the seriousness of these allegations. We the people behind WikiLeaks think highly of Julian and he has our full support. While Julian is focusing on his defenses and clearing his name, WikiLeaks will be continuing its regular operations.'
