German sentence structure |
German sentencestructure is complex, with phrases regularly inverted. It doesn't strictly follow "Subject Verb Object". Any of the sentence elements can be moved to the front of the sentence for emphasis. For example:Ich gebe ihm ein Buch. (I gave him a book.) Ein Buch gebe ich ihm. (A book, I gave to him.) Ihm gebe ich ein Buch. (Him, I gave a book to.) Question: Ich habe geschlafen. (I slept.) Habe ich geschlafen? (Did I sleep?) |
