  这是一个源自在英国孩子中流行的棋盘游戏的课堂游戏。其目的是通过除去字母来猜单词。
This is a classroom game based on a board game popular with children in the UK. The aim of the game is to guess the word by eliminating letters.

Explain to the students the scoring system for the game. A tick means right letter, right position, a circle means right letter wrong position and a cross means wrong letter.

The teacher (or perhaps a student) thinks of a word for everyone else to try and guess (in our example the word the students are trying to guess is PARK). This game generally works best with either 4 or 5 letter words.

They show the number of letters by drawing blanks on the board (4 blanks for PARK _ _ _ _)

If we have a four-letter word, then the students think of any four-letter word and the teacher writes it on the board. Underneath, the teacher then scores the word.

For example if our students suggest ROCK, the scoring will look something like the picture on the right. R is the right letter, but in the wrong position, O is the wrong letter, as is C, but K is the right letter, in the right position.


Using this information the students now know they are looking for a word which ends in K, but also has an R in it, but not in the first position. Students guess that the word is DARK. The teacher scores the word as in the picture on the left.


Students now know that the word they are trying to guess ends with the letters A R K. They correctly guess that the word is P A R K. The final board will look something like the picture on the right.

An alternative to this activity, is to play the game in teams, so that each team thinks of a word and the winner is the first team to correctly guess the other team's word.
