Sometimes a few pupils will try and answer but it is usually the same pupils each time. Many of the class do not try to answer and so never speak in class. | It is difficult for pupils to speak out in front of the whole class. Young learners are often shy. They may be embarrassed to speak and may not be very confident that their answer is correct.
Whatever the reason it makes no sense to try and bully students into talking - when they don't feel pressure they may respond. The following pages detail various ways of helping your students speak in class.
