I am peaceful, as a husband and father ought to be. So, from today, I forgive all m
en who are or shall be my enemies. It does not matter whether they are princes, knights or low men."

Don Quixote was not pleased to hear these words. "You are a coward," he cried. "How can you be governor of an island or a kingdom? A great ruler must be afraid of nothing and nobody."

"I wish for no bravery," answered Sancho. "The only reward is b
roken bones! Try to stand up, sir, I will see if Rozinante can walk. Life is full of surprises. After your great success over the enemy yesterday, we are today lying here in this sad condition."

"You must understand," said Don Quixote, "that there are accidents which sometimes come to knights."

"Well," said Sancho, "then may I ask you something, sir? How often wil
l we have accidents like this? Two are enough, and I do not want a third."

They Come to an Inn

At this minute, Sancho's donkey came t
o see what was happening. With much pain, and a great effort, Sancho stood up. But he could not stand straight.
