Don Quixote Explains

"Be qu
iet, Sancho," answered Don Quixote. "Do you not know that in a battle everything may suddenly change? I am sure that the wickedmagician, Friston, who took my books, is the enemy. He has changed those
giants into windmills to stop me winning the fight. But, in the end, all his wicked plans will fail."

"I hope so," said Sancho, helping his master to rise. The knight then got on Ro
zinante again. Rozinante's shoulders had been almost broken by the fall. He then rode towards a high place, where the road from Madrid crossed the mountains. He thought he would find plenty of adventu
res there.

They passed the night in a small wood. Don Quixote pulled a dead branch from one of the trees, and repaired his broken lance with it. Then like a true knight, he stayed aw
ake during the night and thought of his lady, Dulcinea. Sancho had a drink, and then slept all night without moving.
