210. The Grasshopper And The Owl

An Owl accustomed to feed at nig
ht and to sleep during the day, was greatly disturbed by the noise of a Grasshopper, and earnestlybesought her to leave off chirping. The Grasshopper refused to desist, and chirped louder and louder the more the Owl entreated.
The Owl, when she saw that she could get no redress, and that her words were despised, attacked the chatterer by a stratagem. "Since I cannot sleep, "she said," on account of your song, which, believe me, is sweet as the ly
re of Apollo, I shall indulge myself in drinking some nectar which Pallas lately gave me. If you do not dislike it, come to me, and we will drink it together." The Grasshopper, who was at once thirsty and pleased wit
h the praise of her voice, eagerly flew up. The Owl, coming forth from her hollow, seized her, and put her to death.
210. 蚱蜢和猫头鹰
一只猫头鹰总在晚上出来吃东西,白天回去睡觉,却被一只蚱蜢的叫声吵得不能安眠,因此急切地请求它停止它的叫声。 蚱蜢不肯停止,猫头鹰愈是请求,它反而叫得愈响。 猫头鹰发现无计可施,它的话一点效果也没有,便想了一个计策去对付这只叫不停的东西。 它说:「为了你的歌声,我反正睡不着了。你这歌声,几乎是和爱波罗神的七弦琴一样动听,我索性将雅典娜女神最近送我的仙酒拿来痛饮一场了, 如果你不讨厌这酒,那么我们就一起喝吧。」 蚱蜢正口渴,又听到一些赞美它声音的话,于是非常高兴,就急切地飞了上去。 这时猫头鹰从它的洞中出来,立即攫住它把它弄死了。
