14. The Fisherman Piping

A Fisherman skilled in music took hi
s flute and his nets to the sea-shore. Standing on a projecting rock he played several tunes, in the hope that the fish, attracted by his melody, would of their own accord dance into his net, which he had placed below. A
t last, having long waited in vain, he laid aside his flute, and casting his net into the sea, made an excellent haul of fish. When he saw them leaping about in the net upon the rock he said: "O you most perverse creatures, when I piped
you would not dance, but now that I have ceased you do so merrily."
14. 吹笛的渔人
一个擅长音乐的渔夫,带了笛子和鱼网来到海滨 。 站在石矶上,吹奏着歌曲,希望以歌声引诱鱼儿自动投入他撒下的网中。 可是等了许久仍是徒然。他于是就丢开了笛,拋网入海,捕到满满一网的鱼。 当他提起网来,看见鱼儿在岩石上的网中雀跃不已,便说:「啊!你们这些倔强的家伙!我吹笛时,你们不肯跳跃,现在我不吹了,你们却跳得这般高兴。」
