The Hares And The Frogs The Hares, oppressed with a sense of their own exceeding timidity, and weary of the perpetual alarm to which they were exposed, with one accord determined to put an end to themselves and their troubles, by jumping from a lofty precipice into a deep lake below. As they scam pered off in a very numerous body to carry out their resolve, the Frogs lying on the banks of the lake heard the noise of their feet, and rushed helter-skelter to the deep water for safety. On seeing the rapid disappearance of the Frogs , one of the Hares cried out to his companions: "Stay, my friends, do not do as you intended; for you now see that other creatures who yet live are more timorous than ourselves." | 126. 野兔和蛙 野兔们觉得自己太没有勇气了，又厌恶他们常常遭受恐惧，于是大家同心一致，决定从危耸的悬崖上，跳入下面的深湖中自杀，免得天天过着杞人忧天的生活。 当他们排成了长长的一队，急速地向前走去，准备要实行他们的决心时，那些躺在湖滨的青蛙，听到它们的脚步声，惊惶混乱地纷纷跳到水中去避难。 有一只野兔看到青蛙急忙走避的样子，便向它的同伴们叫道：「我的朋友们，且慢！现在你们不用实行刚才的决心了；因为你们现在看见还有其它的动物比我们还要胆小，也依然在生活着呢。」 |
