Greg Gordon is an international party-starter. He founded the company Partymachines.com Inc. in 1999, selling foam, bubble and snow machines to bars, nightclubs, rental companies, summer camps and amusement parks from his native Austin, Texas.

How often are you up in the air? Twelve to 16 times a year.

Where do you go the most? The U.S., for trade shows and to see my mother. In the U.S., I get to recharge. I eat Tex-Mex, in Austin, preferably. I go most frequently to Las Vegas for trade shows. In China, I go to Guangzhou about three times a year to buy equipment. There is nothing sexy about Guangzhou for me. It's work.

What's your favorite hotel in Asia? I really enjoy Shangri-La because of their happy hour and dinner (for a small up-charge at check-in) and wonderful breakfast spread. When I get out of Beijing, sometimes I simply want to relax and be away from the hustle of the big city.

Favorite airport? I enjoy the Tokyo airport because of the VIP traveler lounge. Their food and beverage selections exceed expectations.

Who does check-in right? Southwest Airlines does check-in right in the U.S. Internationally, I have only positive experiences checking in with Delta.

Best frequent-flier lounge? The Tokyo United lounge.

What's your preferred carrier? In Asia, it's Air China, because I can use my United points. In the U.S., it's United.

Preferred in-flight entertainment? I watch whatever movies they're showing on the flight, and I read.

What's your favorite airport-to-city journey? It's exciting to go from the Austin airport to the city, because I'm going home.

Any packing tips? Bring less than you think you need. I only bring one suitcase and a carry-on, and my iPhone. I'm Mr. Light Travel.

How do you keep up with exercise while on the road? I don't go to a gym, it's against my religion. I try to walk. I take the long way.

Essential travel gadgets? I don't carry any paper. All of my travel information is on my iPhone.

What's your advice on scoring an upgrade? Be sweet. Just be sweet to the counter attendants. You catch more flies with honey. The attendants are tough, though. There are some things my charm doesn't work on.

What city has the best taxis? I enjoy the bargain pricing of taxi rides in mainland China. I really enjoy the English-speaking taxi drivers in Hong Kong.

Favorite luggage? I love my Tumi backpack/briefcase with all of its pockets and compartments. It holds up to wear and tear extremely well.

What's your Travel Tip 101? I always tell people to make sure your mother or spouse has a copy of your passport, visa and itinerary. I do not find it necessary to ever pack more clothes for anything more than four days. Washing during a trip always ends up being much less complicated for me than having a cumbersome amount of luggage.
